Tomariyumachi is the direct sales fish market in Naha with tuna specialty vendors from the Okinawa Fishing Cooperative and mozuku vendors in addition to wholesalers. There is even a processing plant screened with glass for viewing. The daily landing averages 20 tons and reaches as much as 50 tons on a good catch, of which about 70% is tuna. The recommendations are tuna sashimi and tuna bowl. The type of tuna varies by season, and if you want the tuna in season, this is the best place to get it.

Although the precise date of construction is unknown, there are records of it becoming the official residence of the king after unification of the three kingdoms of the island under the First Sho Dynasty early in the 15th century. Shurijo Castle was repaired and expanded by King Sho Shin of the Second Sho Dynasty. Outside the main castle were two gates, one of which was Shureimon. In the ramparts made of quarried Ryukyu limestone can be found the Kankaimon, Zuisen and Hakuginmon gates. In the inner court, the main building Seiden stands with the Nanden (south hall) on its left and the Hokuden (north hall) on its right. Shurijo Castle was destroyed during the war, but part of it has since been reconstructed. In 1992 the area was opened to the public as Shurijo Castle Park. Shurijo Castle is protected and inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as a treasure of significant cultural or natural importance to the whole world.
With about 200 year-old houses of various architecture that have been moved from all the corners of Okinawa, this theme park revives the old times of Okinawa. Indigo dyeing, pottery, weaving, Bingata and other folk arts workshops are available, as well as Eisa dance, Karate performances and other village style performing arts. There are definitely many attractions for visitors to enjoy, amongst which the brown sugar factory. There, observe water buffalos crush sugar canes in a sugar cane grinder, the produced sap is boiled to produce the much favored brown sugar.
The park consists of a tropical garden and a greenhouse. The greenhouse with a flowing waterfall features a collection of rare subtropical plants of Okinawa. Located in Motobu of Northern Okinawa, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is a popular tourist destination, visited by more than 3 million people each year. Under the concept of “encountering the waters of Okinawa,” the aquarium is home to around 740 species and 21,000 marine life. The facility starts on the third floor, taking you through the shallow waters down into the deep sea as if you were diving. The tanks entitled, “Sea of Coral” and “Sea of Tropical Fish,” allow natural sunlight and seawater into them to depict scenes of the tropical sea without compromise. The main tank, “Kuroshio Sea,” which is impressive in size with a depth of 10 m, length of 35 m, and width of 27 m, draws the highest acclaim from visitors. In the “Kuroshio Sea,” which is one of the largest tanks in the world, 8.6-meter long whale shark as well as reef manta rays swim about leisurely. Be sure to get a clear view, not only from the front, but also the top, sides, and other angles. You will surely feel the force of the sea and life in Okinawa overflowing with diversity. From the shallow waters to the offshore waters into the Kuroshio Sea and further down into the deep sea, the various forms of life in the sea continue to captivate our hearts.
